New Paint
Ol' Rusty came home today. Steve did a great job and we're very happy with the work he did. The color is "Gulf Stream Aqua". A picture is worth a thousand words so here's about 6000 words worth:
I'm glad you like it......it's a very pretty car:) Just kidding, it's tough looking! I also think with the lighter interior that it will look awesome! I should start the count down until May 1, and it being on the road:) Maybe I should try to get the K code on the road by then....or at least running lol
Congratulations on this major milestone! That must be a very satisfying feeling walking into the shop to the sight and smell of fresh paint on your mount! Too sweet!
I'm looking to drive it by the end of may but it won't be completed for another year or two. I'm going to need to budget out for interior, new chrome items, new top, and other detail items that I can buy and put on over time (while I'm driving it).
You have a very beautiful car and did a great job restoring it. I am currently restoring a 1968 Mustang and i am planning to repaint the dash and inner doors parchment. May i ask a few questions about how you restored yours? First, how did you remove the old paint? Sandblast or chemical? Second, what kind of parchment paint will you use? and how will you apply it? My dash was painted black and I want to return it back to parchment. I hope to hear from you soon.
Chris, Sorry I took so long responding. I removed the dash paint with an angle grinder spinning a knotted wire wheel. The car was taken to a media blaster for the exterior body paint and he used walnut shell media. Check the 3/12/2012 blog entry for the dash paint details. Good luck with your car!
Alex, I'm behind the times keeping up with you. That is absolutely stunning! You're closing in on what I one day dream of...getting behind the wheel for the first time around the block.
Hey Dennis, no worries. You're keeping pretty busy on your own projects to be surfing around the web for other people's! Yes, the time is drawing near and I'm starting to lose sleep over it. ;-)
HOLY CRAPOLA Alex!!! That's what you get for not checking in often enough... look at your progress - I am so jealous. I know that colour combo is gonna just look "da bomb". I will be going with Acapulco Blue and the white interior however maybe I will be swayed once I see you final product. Getting so close now, well done!
Thanks for sharing the photos of the steering column install. I was completely lost in getting mine put back together until I referenced your pictures. Much appreciated, and good blog!
Hey, awesome work! Looking for that color since a while, which brand did you use? Is there a number or code? Have seen a lot of Gulfstream Aqua - they all look green. Yours is perfect!
Wow! With a white interior Alex, that is going to be a spectacular car!!! A major milestone!

Thanks Sven! It does take a load off my mind... but then adds a load back on again. :-)
DeleteLooks absolutely fantastic...did your painter paint the fenders and other small parts off the car?
ReplyDeleteThanks Ian! Yeah, he had everything but the doors off the car.
DeleteGood to know. Do you have a target completion date?

Deletethat sounds like the perfect scenario. Good luck.
DeleteVery pretty ! A vote for a white interior.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ripa. Yes, she will have a light parchment interior.

ReplyDeleteHaha! Honestly, I could go with Acapulco too. Both colors are my favorites for 68. I think it will look sweet once she's all together though. Thanks!
